INTERVIEW SERIES - Q & A WITH BULLS ASSISTANT COACH RON ADAMS by Amit Tailor

I spoke with Coach Adams back in February, and we had a great, and very informative interview back then. I was able to speak with Coach Adams again today, really quickly before the game.  It was about Derrick Rose and his thoughts on this Pacers series, so check out my quick Q and A, round 2, with him, below...

AT:  I remember asking you about teams trying to take the ball away from Derrick as he crosses mid-court and you telling me that once Joakim was back from his thumb injury that it would stop. Indiana has had some success in taking the ball away from Derrick, but what is the biggest reason that they are able to give them so much trouble? I see them being very physical with not just Derrick, but also with Carlos, Luol, and Joakim as well. One thing that I have noticed is there are back-cutting lanes when they overextend on defense, especially if Derrick is off the ball. Is there any plan to take advantage of Indy's agressive defense and back-cut to get high percentage shots? I have seen this work a few times in the series, but generally it has been on just a few occasions.

RA:  Indiana has played aggressively and they have done a pretty good job slowing DR with the trap.  We seem to have good passing lanes but we are not utilizing them enough.  Back cutting is one possibility but I think we have made too many “home run” passes which has hurt us.  In addition, we have had a poor shooting series and that is partly their defense and partly our inability to score when open.  Their frontline has been very physical and they excel at the 2nd effort.  We have to do more of the same. Hopefully, we can end it today...

SCOTTIE PIPPEN'S STATUE CEREMONY 04/07/2011

Congrats Scottie, you earned it!

I would definitely change the statue though. I would probably have made the statue of Scottie dunking on Ewing. Or at the very least, I would have probably put Scottie in a defensive position! It's still great to see him finally get his own statue. I can't wait to goto the UC and check it out...GO BULLS!

DERRICK ROSE/BULLS HIGHLIGHTS VS THE BOSTON CELTICS

DROSE LEAVING RONDO IN THE DUST

DROSE ONE HANDED FLOATER HIGH OFF THE GLASS(wait for the replay)

FULL HIGHLIGHTS

What a game by DRose and the Bulls tonight? What more can I say about DROSE that I haven't already? And whoever doesn't think DROSE deserves MVP should go back and watch the game again tonight. Every play and decision he made, was the right one, it was great to watch. The kid is just amazing to watch night in and night out, and we are truly lucky to have this guy on our squad.

Everyone played great, but I wanted to take a second to point out that other than DROSE doing his thing, Luol also put on a show tonight.  On both ends of the floor!

With tonight's win, the Bulls all but lock up the 1 seed, which is great considering how much better we play at home. This will be huge vs the Magic, Heat, and Celtics in the 2nd and 3rd rounds!

Before I go, I got to give a big shout out to my main man Scottie Pippen. I am so happy they got him his own statue at the UC! I'm sad I missed going to tonight's game, but I can't wait to check out the statue when I goto the UC next. Below is a picture of it, it's pretty sick...

I honestly can not wait until the playoffs start! DROSE FOO! BULLS FOO! NUMBER ONE SEED FOO!!!!

MARK'S KADDY KORNER - MASTERS PREDICTIONS - by Mark Huber

Master’s Predictions

There are only three first time winners in Masters history and the first two don’t count, Horton Smith and Gene Sarazen in 1934 and 35. Fuzzy won his first time around but other than that you need experience, local knowledge, patience and maybe an Augusta caddy, they know the course better than anyone except maybe Jack. Zach Johnson won his Green Jacket and laid up on every par five; try to get Phil to follow that strategy. What I’m trying to say, Augusta really favors no particular golfer except maybe the long knocker and the great putter but don’t they usually do well at any event.

Only four players have ever won the week before and went on to win the Masters but Phil is still the favorite this week. He has two drivers, a great putter and short game, imagination out the wazoo and “Bones”, a very good caddy who knows his player and the course. Phil has all the tools, momentum, knowledge, experience but whenever he’s had a chance to reach world #1 he falters. Maybe there’s a bit too much pressure this week, we’ll see.

Bubba and D. J. are the exciting picks but all they have is length and maybe a bit of short game. They might finish top ten but not measured for a jacket. The Europeans are the formidable picks this week. Justin Rose, Lee Westwood, Paul Casey, Luke Donald are all likeable chances but Augusta demands a bit different golf than they are used to. They’ll be close when we get to the back nine Sunday but not on top at the end. The only sentimental pick with half a chance is Fred Couples but his back and balky putter can’t go four rounds any more.

Here’s who I really like this week. These four guys have the best shot at sipping wine in Butler Cabin Sunday evening. Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, Nick Watney and yes, Tiger Woods are the favorites in my book. Matt’s been golfing his ball for awhile and knows Augusta well. Hunter drives it better than anyone on tour, putts the lights out and can go low anytime. Nick Watney has the all round game, tournament experience is questionable, he only has to know the red light green light holes and pins. I just like Tiger at Augusta, that’s all I have to say.

Dad and I will be watching the Masters all weekend while he recuperates from triple by-pass surgery. I can’t think of a better rehab program for both of us.

BULLS GAME 77 RECAP - by Kent McDill

Bulls angry after win
By Kent McDill

Sometimes, coaches and players display affectations of emotion, pretending to be upset about one thing or another because it's considered the thing to do.  But the emotion that came out of the Bulls' locker room Tuesday was intense and real.

The Bulls beat the Phoenix Suns 97-94 but they let a 22-point third quarter lead disappear. The Suns had five chances to tie the game in the last three minutes, but could never get the last shot to drop.

All teams in the NBA have games like that, but as Derrick Rose said, "we have big plans. We can't play like that."

Coach Tom Thibodeau, who walked to his post-game press conference looking like he wanted to hurt someone, was truly upset that his defensive-minded team allowed a Phoenix team that is out of the playoffs to even sniff at a victory.

"We were fortunate in the end to get the win,'' Thibodeau said. "We did not play tough with the lead."
I don't think this game has any real meaning from a playoff standpoint. I don't think it is necessary to make a bigger deal out of this than to note that the Bulls let a big lead slide.

The Bulls are good, one of the best teams in the league, maybe the best from top to bottom. But they have difficulty putting the hammer down. It's a skill they lack, and you just have to hope it will not come back to bite them sometime in the next two months.

On the positive side, the Bulls spread the scoring around. Rose had 19 points, Luol Deng had 18, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah each had 12, and Ronnie Brewer and Taj Gibson had 10 each off the bench.

Two of those totals were most significant. Noah was coming back after missing three games with a sprained ankle, and he was very fluid. He made six of seven shots, most on dunks, and added four rebounds, four assists and four steals. He is a great starting center to play with someone like Rose.

Off the bench, Taj Gibson had 10 points, nine rebounds and only one turnover in 21 minutes, playing a lot as Carlos Boozer had a tough of foul trouble and was coming back from a flu bug.

At halftime, the Bulls had a 53-40 lead and the bench contributed 26 points to the starters' 27. I really have to wonder if this bench is better than the benches either of the three-peat teams had.

On Thursday, the Bulls host the Boston Celtics, and I encourage all again not to try to make more out of that game than it requires. But I know you won't listen.

HERO: Luol Deng was playing defense on Vince Carter late in the game and forced him to take three bad shots when the Suns could have tied the game. In a game where the Bulls stopped playing defense, it was his stops that saved the day.
