GREAT WEEK IN SPORTS by MM

Traditionally, as the calendar turns to summer people become busy with enjoying the great outdoors, family, vacations, etc. and sports fall by the wayside. Not this year.  We're in the midst of possibly one of the biggest weeks of sports in recent memory, with all major sports experiencing highly memorable moments, and we at DSS would be remiss if we didn't make note of this historic and crazy week in Sports:
Here's a day by day chronology of the events as they unfolded:
Friday June 4th:  The sports world mourns as one of the true G.O.A.Ts, John Wooden, passes at the age of 99.
Saturday June 5th: Drosselmeyer wins the Belmont Stakes in Horse-Racings 3rd and final leg of the the triple crown.
Sunday June 6th:  Rafa Nadal continues his clay court dominance in a straight set victory in Tennis' French Open
Monday: One of most hyped prospects in baseball, Bryce Harper,  is drafted first overall by the Washington Nationals. He has been called the 2nd coming of Johnny Bench and also Baseball's Lebron James.
Tuesday June 8th:  Stephen Strasburg finally makes his debut for the Washington Nationals in what many called the most anticipated debut in recent baseball history. He doesn't disappoint with 14 K in 7 innings of work. The sky is the limit for this kid.
Wednesday June 9th:  After a 49-year drought the Chicago Blackhawks claim the Lord Stanley's Cup in a OT Game 6 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.  Left for the dead 3-years ago as the worst franchise in sports, the Blackhawks title is a tremendous win for a storied franchise, a championship starved city, and the entire hockey world.
Thursday June 10th: The NCAA world joins the party and changes the competitive balance in all of college sports. Nebraska joins the Big 10, Colorado joins the Pac10.  Texas, TT, ND, Oklahoma might all be moving too?  And USC gets smacked down hard for all their scheming!
Friday June 11th - The world turns it's eyes onto South Africa for the 1-month long World Cup, which is going to be amazing!!!
To top it all off, the NBA Finals are still going on right now. It's the Lakers vs. Celtics.  One of the NBA's greatest rivalries.  And if you think about it, when is the next Finals we will see like this one?  One filled with a ton of future Hall of Famers!

Also of course it's a huge day for Chicago sports fans! The Hawks parade is today, and the Cubs/White Sox Crosstown games kick off...
Oh yes, what a week in Sports it has been....
