STONE COLD LEAD PIPE DOCKS - WEEK 8

Welcome back FNL...

Vik's Pix:
(Last Week 1-4)
(Overall 12-7-1)

Cowboys -9

The Boys showed me something last week, beating a good a good Falcons team. They showed me they still have life and are going to be in this for the long haul. I also see the Boys being able to run on this Seattle defense. Look for Romo and Austin to continue their bromance this week too. Seattle is also a terrible road team. They have been throughout the years. And on top of that, they lost their two bookends to injury, their RT and LT, Jones and Locklear. Losing Walter Jones is a huge, huge injury for this team. He is the one that protects Hass's blindside, and instead of him they have signed a street free agent in 32 year old Damion McIntosh. With these OLINE injuries, look for the Boys front four to terrorize Hass all day long, especially Ware. Last week the Boys front four awakened getting to Ryan all day vs a very solid Falcons OLine. I'll take the Boys at home in this one, winning by a couple tuddy's...

Colts -12

The Alex Smith comeback last week was pretty sweet. If you have read his stories, it is pretty good to cheer for the kid. I'll definitely be rooting for him to succeed, but I just don't see him getting it done this week. The Colts have a great pass defense, and this is just a horrible matchup for him, with him on the road. This offense doesn't even suit his game, and Lucas Oil will be loud. I see him making a lot of mistakes in this game, which will play right into Manning's hands. And once the Colts get up early, that will neutralize the Niners best weapon in Gore. The Niners let Matt Ryan and Schaub throw all over them the past few weeks, so what is going to happen to them when they face Manning, at home? I know 12 is a lot of points, but I see the Colts winning by at least a couple of touchdowns...

Fins+3

Jets LB Pace said the wildcard wasn't real football after the Fins beat them on MNF. Well guess what player, get ready to see a lot of it again today, and please try to stop it before you ride on it. I don't see how the Jets stop this potent Fins running game without their big man Jenkins. The Jets have dropped to 22nd in stopping the run since losing him, and I see them dropping even further after today. Losing Leon Washington is a huge loss for this Jets squad too. Greene had a good game for the Jets last week, but the Fins are fourth vs the run, so this is not a good matchup for him. Sanchez has been pretty bad after his first three games, and I don't see him carrying this team on his back today, even if the game is at home. Henne has been pretty damn good since taking over the starting job, but look for the Fins to pound the ball on the ground in this game and I see them winning this game outright...

Rams +4

When two bad teams play, I will usually take the points. And with CJ banged up, that eliminates one of the Lions biggest weapons on offense. Look for Bulger and Avery to hook up vs this terrible Lions secondary, the league's worst. And for SJax to finally get his first touchdown vs this struggling Lions run defense. With Stafford coming back from injury, and with CJ banged up, who knows what the Lions offense will do out there. In the end I see the Rams winning straight up, or this game being determined by a last second fg, so I will take the pts.

Giants +2

As I have said before, I'm a big believer in the OLINE, and DLINE. In this game, I feel like the Giants have an advantage in both places. Also if you take away DJackson's return and long TD catch last week, then the Eagles had no offense whatsoever vs the Skins. They are really struggling, and I don't see how they turn it around today vs this STILL GOOD Giants defense. Especially without Westbrook, who is out for the game. I say STILL GOOD , because a lot of people are down on the Giants after their last two games. Look for that to turn around quick, with Osi and company getting to and pressuring Mcnabb all day in this one. Jacobs is going to be a matchup nightmare for this small Eagles front. I look for him to have a huge day and for the Giants to go back to playing some nice, smash mouth football. I will take the pts, but I see the Giats winning straight up in this one.

also going to hedge my bets a little and go large on a 3 team 10 pt teaser with the colts, boys, and cardinals. gluck everyone...

Suman's Pix:
(Last Week 4-1)
(Overall 24-13)

Colts -12

I'll just keep riding this train (pause) until it ends. Peyton Manning vs. Alex Smith. Like Ed Lover would say, come on son. Manning vs. Smith. Come on son. Come on. Really? Come on son. Come on. I'll believe Alex Smith has turned his career around when he wins a few in a row, and continues doing it. 1 half of football isn't good enough. On the other hand, Peyton is playing maybe the best ball of his career. At least as good as his Super Bowl year because he hasn't had his full compliment of receivers all year. With Bob Sanders back too, this might be LOD status for me. Come on son.

Ravens -3

It has to end at some point right? The Broncos aren't going to go undefeated. They've made me look stupid, and just about every prognosticator out there. I don't think I'm a prognosticator, but still. I have Microsoft Word, and I make predictions. Man what am I saying. All I know is that the Ravens had a bye week to correct some things. They've become a pass first team, and I don't think that will continue this week. Ray Rice has been supremely effective. They have 2 or 3 other running backs behind him too. I look for the Ravens to pound the Broncos this week (pause) and for Flacco to play a controlled and efficient game. Kyle Orton will be getting fired at from all directions too, as the Ravens have had a long time to prepare for this game.

Jets -3

The last time these teams played the Dolphins wildcat was effective and they pretty much dominated the Jets for a win. The Jets dominated last week in Oakland, a week after they looked terrible against the Bills. The Sanchise returned with great game, and even a slam dunk on the goal post after a QB sneek. Meanwhile, the Dolphins had their heart ripped out after the Saints scored 36 2nd half points for a win. I think you have to be a special kind of team to return from that kind of humiliation the next week. I don't think the Dolphins are that special. I believe Rex Ryan is a master defensive gameplanner, and will make the necessary changes to shut down the wildcat in this rematch. He will put the game in Henne's hands, and I'll take Sanchez over Henne in that matchup.

Chargers -16.5

The Raiders almost stole one in week 1 against the Chargers, but the Chargers led by Phil Rivers were able to fight back. With Jamarcus Russell really struggling, and the Chargers looking to get their minds right, I look for them to take it out on the Raiders. Just like they dominated the Chiefs and a mediocre offense last week, they'll do it again this week. Russell won't be able to keep up with Rivers, and I think the Chargers will win in a trackmeet.

Jags +3

I don't know what to think of this game. Don't know how Vince Young will respond. Don't know what these 2 teams are thinking right now. But 2 things I do know is that David Garrard is having a decent season against the bad teams he faces, and MJD is a monster. I think he'll go off in this one, and it'll be a close one. So I'll take the points. I think it may turn into a shootout if Vince Young plays well, and I just have a hunch he will. He's too good to have his career just end in anonymity.

Ip's Pix:
(Last Week 3-2)
(Overall 13-15-1)

Giants (Pick Em) - The Giants go into Philly for a division showdown with the Eagles. The Giants are on a bit of a skid while the Eagles have been equally unimpressive the alst two weeks. This will be a closely contested contest but I look for the Giants defensive line to get pressure on McNabb and force some errant throws. The giants should be able to move the ball against a battered eagles defense. Giants by 4

Colts (-13) - Manning is having a his best year IMO. The team is clicking on all cylinders. The only caveat is Reggie Waynes injury status. Even with that though take the Colts in this one….they are juggernaut.

Ravens (-3) - Call this a pick for the more desperate team. As good as the Broncos are, the Ravens need this game to stay afloat in the AFC. Look for a amped up Ray Lewis to rally the suspect defense and keep the Broncos offense quiet. Ravens by 7

Miami (+3) - The J-E-T-S have been bit by the injury bug on defense. That does not bode well against the best rushing attack in the NFL. The fins will put up a lot of points and I don’t think the San-chise has the poise to outscore the Dolphins nasty attack. Dolphins go up north and take one from the JETS.

Jaguars (+3) - A battle of two disappointing teams. Vince Young looks to get the start in this one and though I am excited, I think the Jaguars will come in to Tennessee and take car of business against a somber Titans group. Just goes to show you that last year does not mean anything in the NFL. Jaguars by 4

HITE'S MUSINGS - by RYAN WILLHITE

Some players come into the league and are instantly successful. Deep playoff runs and championships are associated with these players seemingly from the second they don a NBA uniform. Other players have to go through years and years of struggle as they try to build themselves into championship caliber players. Some players rise to the challenge, á la Michael Jordan, others become content in their mediocrity and never find the champion within, á la Antoine Walker.

As fans, we don’t always appreciate this struggle. We don’t realize all that goes into the making of a NBA champion. We think of it as a game of NBA Live 2010. Just push the right buttons and voilá. We forget that Jordan went through six tough years before winning. We don’t forget, however, that Antonie Walker had all the gifts in the world, but seemed content to just spend his money and party, rather than put in the effort that it takes to become a champion. (Not to say that I give Antoine grief, running through 110 million dollars must have made for some ridiculous stories!)

With this in mind, I turn my attention to tonight’s early NBA game, Bulls v. Spurs. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili are clearly in the champion category, and unlike Jordan they didn’t have to wait very long for their rings. Tim won in his second year in the NBA. Parker and Manu didn’t come to the championship team ostensibly championship ready. The Spurs are perhaps the most underrated NBA franchise ever, certainly of our generation. All they do is win.

Conversely, the Bulls aren’t known for anything at the moment. They gave the Celtics all they could handle in the first round of the 2009 playoffs, but with the departure of Ben Gordon no one knows what to make of the Bulls. The general consensus is that they should take steps forward with: the maturation of Derrick Rose, the return of Luol Deng, and the emergence of Noah and Thomas. However, the Warriors were also on the brink of taking these same steps in the summer of 2007. With Baron Davis in Los Angeles and Stephen Jackson on the verge mutiny, we see how that turned out for them. Which way will the Bulls go?

Onto the game...

First Quarter:

Will Derrick Rose join the likes of Deon Williams or Mike Bibby?

Its looking like Deron early on as he opens with crisp passes and confident leadership. He looks surprisingly sharp for someone who hasn’t played a game in a couple of weeks.

Noah is yelling at the top of his lungs after every rebound, with these new muscles and constant scowl (not to mention hustle) I envision a modern day Dennis Rodman.

Rose chases down Richard Jefferson for the patented Lebron block. Rose speeds down the court with his head up and his shoulders squared, the epitome of calm. He throws a no-look pass to Noah who scores the easy two.

Noah looks like a new player, until he passes to the referee and puts his head down; real change takes time, I guess.

Tony Parker glides into the lane like no other, plus his acceleration and ball control are exemplary. If Rose is a bright red Ferrari, Tony Parker is a jet blue BMW. A fast BMW. One as fast as a Ferrari. I don’t know why I wrote that, it just sounded like an analogy Bill Simmons would use.

Parker uses the pick and roll to perfection with shots from the top of the key.

Doug Collins: “If you can’t guard the ball, you can’t play defense in this league.” Amen to that.

George Hill comes into the game doing his best Parker impersonation passing to Manu who makes a whirling dervish shot as he is fouled. Free throw good. Spurs are on a 13-2 run.

The Spurs are not only recent champs, they play like it. Never getting flustered. It strikes me just now that you never seen this team yelling at each other. Contrast that with Kobe constantly scowling at his teammates as the ball bounces off of their heads and out of bounds because he passed it to them for the first time in 3 weeks.

Cheryl Miller compares Rose’s first year maturation process to that of Melo. In Melo’s first two years he had weed and a gun in his car, produced a Stop Snitching DVD, and was in a bar fight. What exactly has Rose done to draw this comparison, Ms. Miller?

McDyess with sick pass to second rounder Blair. I remember this guy was at my Alma Matter, University of Pittsburgh. I can’t believe he fell to the Spurs. The rich get richer, I guess. Blair will make the second team all rookie squad. Sorry Taj Gibson fans.

Manu drives down the lane with ease for another whirling dervish lay-up. His focus on these off balance drives is sick. Kirk responds with a deep three. Manu responds with an easy three off of a Duncan pick. Why couldn’t Iverson agree to this role on a contender? If Manu could be a 6th man surely Iverson could do so as well.

Anyways, first quarter is over. Bulls jumped out to lead spurs came back. Rose is on bench.

2nd Quarter:

Rose is back into game with 11:18 left. Score is tied.

Rose crosses up Hill on screen and hits shot.

Rose gets into traffic, turnover.

Rose tries to pass. George Hill kicks it with his foot. Is Rose trying to attack Hill too much?

Rose comes off screen and hits floater in lane over Ratliff. And one. 29-4, bulls.

Parker replaces Hill. Let’s see if things change.

Rose attacks lane and passes to Taj. Taj is fouled. Seems like the Bull's strategy is to attack the lane.

Parker goes at Rose with Tim setting pick, Parker gets open shot, Rose fouls. Free throw good. Game tied.

Rose, Salmons and Kirk drive the lane and kick back out. Deng and Noah crash offensive boards and get second chance shots.

Spurs come back with ease.

Bulls continue to crash boards, with Deng getting last second rebound and kicking it out to Hinrich. Hinrich hits the three. Bulls up one. Halftime.

Stories of first half: Bulls get into paint with ease. Spurs look lackadaisical. Bulls have tons of energy and are attacking boards. This looks like Bulls v. Celtics all over again! Can the Bulls hold on for the win?

3rd quarter:

Dunks, Drives, threes, Bulls are in sync! They play with lots of hustle. Clicking on all cylinders. Bulls up 72-58 with 2 minutes to go.

Miller moves like slow poke down lane for off balanced lay-up. Bulls up 13.

Hill does another T.P. impersonation; spurs bring it down to 10. Bulls on 22-3 run to end the 3rd.

Can the Bulls make a statement that last year was no fluke and that B.G. is not needed?

One quarter remains. By the way, Duncan has 20 points but the Spurs as a whole seem quiet. Will the sleeping giant wake?

Nike Break to Build ad campaign = hotness. I should apply that philosophy to my life, but I won’t.

4th Quarter:

Spurs big three are on the bench to start the quarter. Interesting when down by 10. Let’s see what Jefferson and Blair can do. Wait? What? Surely the spurs aren’t giving up so early?

Tyrus throws ball away, Miller claims he was fouled. Both of them are yelling. The Spurs never yell.

Jefferson takes horrible three. Manu, Duncan, and Parker come off bench. Whew. I knew Spurs couldn’t let Jefferson and Blair lead them to victory.

Duncan gets to the line off a pick and roll with Manu. Bulls up 13.

Duncan misses first. Makes second.

Rose shows up Parker. Bulls back up to 14.

Rose with rebound off a missed Bonner shot comes down court and does a nifty spin move and is fouled on lay up attempt. When Rose gets this whole package together he will be a joy to watch. No Mike Bibby.

Bulls up 81-67.

Spurs can’t buy a basket missing 14 consecutive 3 points attempts until Finley catches the Duncan pass! Lead 81-70. If Finley hadn’t hit that shot, I was ready to wrap up this recap. No Santa.

Duncan gets ball in post after failed Bulls possession. He is fouled, Bulls have one to give. Finley then throws the ball away. 81-70 with 5:55 left.

Spurs look off today, but the Bulls look great.

Bulls are essentially driving the lane and kicking out for open shots, the bigs of the Bulls are just playing volleyball on the offensive glass. Will this strategy work all year long? Can the bulls survive on energy alone? Will lack of post presence hurt them? These questions and more, next week on Jeopardy!

Hinrich with the baseline floater. Bulls up 13

Ball in low to Duncan he posts up Noah, kisses it off the glass. Bulls up 11.

Deng off screen wide open shot, good. Bulls up 13.

Finley misses a three.

Rose misses wild shot.

Manu fouled, makes both free throws, Bulls up 11.

Manu as whirling dervish passes to Duncan under the basketball. Bulls by 9.

Deng knocks down jumper, 3 min to go bulls by 11.

This game appears to be over as the Bulls are not giving up their lead. Who knows if the Bulls will ascend to the top of the ranks of the east, but if the first game is any indication the Bulls are preparing themselves to take that step...

NBA SEASON PREVIEW - by Suman V

The Indians hired a 40 year old guy who got fired from the Washington Nationals. The Browns currently start a quarterback with a lower rating that Jamarcus Russell. So yes, I'm fairly excited about the start of the NBA season. Even though it will probably end in heartache as it has for each of my teams for my 26+ years on this planet, at least the Cavs have the best player in the game, and at least a shot at greatness.

But I can't mention LeBron James without also mentioning his big bro, Jay-Z. What an offseason it was for this guy. Releasing The Blueprint 3, and reclaiming his throne at the top of hip-hop. In my mind he is now undoubtedly the greatest MC of all-time. I don't know what some of these haters are talking about the BP3 being too pop. I loved it. So here is a preview of the upcoming NBA season with a track-by-track look at Jay-Z's newest masterpiece, and my favorite cd thus far this year. I'll have predictions at the the end, as always.

Track 1 - "What We Talkin' About"
So many storylines this offseason. There are about 5 or 6 teams that have a legit chance at winning it all. Of course, maybe the biggest is the addition of Shaq to the Cavs. But to be honest, as excited as I was... Shaq is a role player now. How about the Eastern Conferance Champion Orlando Magic kind of dismantling their team and rebuilding with even more pieces? I still don't think they have enough in the chamber for games that matter. The Spurs added Richard Jefferson and are looking at the proverbial window closing shut on their faces. The Celtics reloaded with some key vets. But what we talkin' bouttttttttt? Its the Lakers. The Greatest show on wood. Essentially trading Trevor Ariza for Ron Artest. Watching Lamar Odom marry the love of his life. Allowing Pau Gasol to maintain that thing on his face. And of course Kobe. As he chases Michael down you can tell this is a new Kobe. A more mature Kobe. That killer instinct is still there and always was, but I feel that he's more of an assasin now that picks his spots instead of the psychopathic loner he was before. Undoubtedly, this is the most talented team in the league on paper. BUT, it'll take a blending of all these combustible parts to create another champion. I'm the biggest Kobe hater there is, but you have to respect him. And that's why the Lake Show is the team to talk about.

Track 2- "Thank You"
To the New York Knicks and Isiah Thomas.....Thank you thank you thank you....you're far too kiiiiinnd. For royally fucking up their cap situation, and for creating a roster with virtually zero talent. You really think LeBron is going to leave for them now? It was the most logical destination if he were to leave. But not anymore. Now its a battle between the Nets, Clips/Lakers, and the more likely destination of Cleveland.

Track 3 - "Death of Auto-tune" (DOA)
Jay-Z tried to kill ring tone rap. And I think I can say that the crazy run-and-gun D'Antoni style offense of the past few years is almost officially dead. No, this style never won a title. But it revitalized the NBA after the Bulls/Heat/Knicks slobberknocker years. But over the past decade you saw a few teams (Golden State, Phoenix, Dallas, Toronto, Sacramento and more recently New York) try to implement this style of play. There were a few really good teams. But in the end nothing. No titles. Futility. Its really cute. Its fun to watch on TNT late on Friday night when you are at the bar. But its not going to win a title. And now with the Lakers, Magic, Cavs, Celtics, Spurs, and Nuggets firmly at the top of the NBA (not 1 run and gun team amongst them) I think that era has effectively passed.

Track 4 - "Run This Town"
To the Los Angeles Clippers. In my mind there is going to be a real turf war of who runs the city of Los Angeles in a couple of years. Obviously the Lakers do now. Kobe is the king of L.A. But have you seen Blake Griffin play??? He is a genetic freak on par with Dwight Howard and LeBron James. He is going to be a great one. Then you add an amazing young nucleus of Eric Gordon, Al Thornton, and DeAndre Jordan to a veteran core of Baron Davis, Marcus Camby, Ricky Davis (uhhhh), and Chris Kaman...well then. All I'm saying is that this year or the next its going to happen. It has too. Too much talent.

Track 5 - "Empire State of Mind"
You are probably thinking I'm going to write something about LeBron aren't you? Idiot. Who really has a New York state of mind? The New Jersey Nets. I'm not sure how much closer they are to moving to Brooklyn, but I'm sure having a billionaire Russian owner doesn't hurt that process. The Brooklyn Nets? I kind of like the ring to it. The Nets don't have any fans in NJ anyways...so why not. With a solid backcourt of Devin Harris and Courtney Lee, and a weird nerd big man on the verge of stardom in Brook Lopez....this team is right there. If this does happen, there needs to be a camera on Brook Lopez as he is allowed to walk the streets of Brooklyn. This is a must.

Track 6 - "Real as it Gets"
My boy the Sports Guy, Bill Simmons, always talks about the impending financial crisis in the NBA. Hell it already started. The salary cap lowered, and LeBron and other free agents chances of leaving their cities in the summer of 2010 got a lot lower. Thats about as real as it could possibly get. Could teams really retract? Could their be a firesale of players around the trade deadline from teams that have no shot at winning? Is the NBA turning into baseball where only a few cash-rich teams are able to compete for a title? I don't have the answer to any of these questions. I'm just hoping that Miami Heat tickets will get slashed so much that I'll be able to sit courtside for a few games.

Track 7 - "On to the Next One"
To the Orlando Magic. For more than 1 reason. First of all, to their GM Otis Smith for being brilliant. I was first in the line of haters that said the Magic weren't for real last year. Turned out they were ahead of the curve. Nobody realized how good Dwight Howard had become. Best big man in the game. "Niggas gonna be mad because its all about progression." D-Ho definitely progressed. He seized the moment. The Magic also moved onto the next swing man. They got rid of Hedo Turkoglu after he basically carried them to the Finals with his playmaking ability, and signed Vince Carter. Can Vince fill the role? I'm thinking no. I never thought he was a good playmaker. They are definitely deeper (pause) but are they better? I don't think so.

Track 8 - "Off That"
"Welcome ...to the... future" ......I'll give this to the Atlanta Hawks and New Orleans Hornets. "You can't bring the future baaaackkkk." These 2 teams are both on the verge of being OLD NEWS. A few years ago, remember in the playoffs when these were 2 of the more promising teams in the league? In the Hawks case its more a case of bad timing. With 3 legit title contenders in their conference they kind of got lost in the shuffle. And unless Marvin Williams makes that leap into the upper echelon of SF's in the league, its not happening for them any time soon. And I don't see that happening so sorry guys. For the Hornets, you have Chris Paul ...annndd...thats about it. I don't know what happened. They looked like THE team to beat last year, going into the year. I remember I had them as #2 in the West last year. Then nothing. However, I like the rookies they brought in with Marcus Thornton, and Darren Collinson. Maybe they'll take some pressure of CP3. If Emeka Okafur can be a real center, allowing David West to be a real power forward, then this team has a shot to bring their future back.

Track 9 - "A Star is Born"
To Kevin Durant. WOW. I already bought my tickets to the Heat v. whatever the Oklahoma team's nickname is in November. I can say that the only person I look forward to seeing play in person more than Durant is LeBron. He's right on the verge of averaging > 30. He is a 7 footer who can shoot from 30 feet out. He is the Durantula. He is Gumby. He is amazing, and he is going to be in the MVP race.

Track 10 - "Venus vs. Mars"
This would be gay if I tried to compare this to an NBA situation or player. So..... Have you seen this Miami Heat dancer?

Track 11 - "Already Home"
The sing is the official LeBron James anthem of 2009-2010. The lyrics fit perfectly. "Hey I'm Already Home." He's already gone because he's on another level. He's on the wall already. He's a Warhol already. And he's already playing for the team he will always play for. Plus Cleveland's own Kid Cudi is on the hook....need I say more?

Track 12 - "Hate"
To the haters. To the Kobe Bryant haters. Me being #1 on that list. He proved me wrong. And now that he has MJ's 6 rings in his sights I almost find myself pulling for him. He's not quite there yet. But remember when MJ retired, and we went through that first wave of the media hyping up players to be the "next" Jordan? Grant Hill, Penny, Vince, and even Harold Miner? Well it was embarrassing to MJ to even bring up comparisons to those guys. And now....its actually a discussion with Kobe. That's the amazing thing. If you bring it up now, its actually a topic not a disgrace. Whoever you are talking to has to listen. And with the way MJ"s life is going and the bitterness he is showing towards everyone including his family, its almost like I want Kobe to get #6....

Track 13 - "Reminder"
The to Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs. The C's won it 2 years ago. They were almost there last year, but KG's body breaking down ended hopes. I think they have to send you a reminder, so here it is....KG, Pierce, and Jesus are back for one more push. Rajon Rondo is on the verge of being the best point guard in the game. Yes, THE best. Its between him and Derrick Rose in the east, and they are right behind CP3/Nash/D-Will. Having KG around and the other vets around him has pushed his career into high gear. I absolutely love him. Adding 'Sheed, Candace Parker's husband, and Marquis Daniels makes this a deep team. And the Spurs ...well what else can you say. People always sleep on them. But Duncan is finally healthy, and I think they got the steal of the draft in Dejuan Blair. It'll be interesting to see how Duncan operates with a stacked team again.

Track 14 - "So Ambitious"
I got a few teams in mind for this so I'll just lump them together. The Nuggets, Mavs, Blazers, Raptors, Sixers, Clippers, Pistons, and Wizards. All of these teams added key players through either free agency or trades either this year or last. Let me rephrase....all these teams added EXPENSIVE players via free agency or trades. They all know they are on the outside looking in, but are are ambitious enough to try to do something about it.

Track 15 - "Young Forever"
To Dikembe Mutombo . This will be the first season in my basketball loving life that Dikembe isn't around. He seemed like one of the good guys in the NBA. And it was kind of freaky that he got tangled up with Greg Oden (who is maybe he closest counterpart) on his final time on the court. If you haven't read this guy's wiki or read about his charitable endeavors take 5 minutes out of your day and do it.

STONE COLD LEAD PIPE DOCKS - WEEK 7

Vik aka Docksquad's Pix:
(Last week 4-1)
(Overall 11-3-1)

Panthers -7
These Panthers give me a heart attack every week, but I will have to ride with them again this week. The Panthers have an amazing running back combo, and the Bills are DEAD LAST vs the run. So this matchup plays perfectly into the Panthers hands. On top of that, two good Bills players who are decent vs the run, NT Kyle Williams and Donte Whitner, are injured. And after the Bills start putting 8 or 9 in the box, Jake D should hit the TE or Steve Smith on a couple of deep passes to blow this game open. With Ryan Fitz at QB, I just don't see how the Bills come back in this game once they get down early. The Panthers will just stack the box to stop Lynch and Jackson, and try to see if Fitz can beat them deep. But his also plays perfectly into the Panthers game plan, because Fitz has a weak arm, and can't throw deep. All these factors combined has me loving the Panthers today...

Falcons +5
I know a lot of people will be on the Boys today, but I just can't do it. I've watched both of these teams play a bunch of times this year, and the Falcons are just a flat out better football team to me, so I will take the points in this one. The Cowboys have one of the worst pass D's in the game, 26th to be exact, and they are supposed to stop the Falcons indoors? I see Ryan, White, and TGO matching the Cowboys in this one, strike for strike. As it is, Matt Ryan doesn't get sacked, and now they play the Boys who don't get pressure on anyone. Ryan is going to stand back there untouched, and light up this Cowboys defense. I see the Falcons then using the pass to setup the run, so look for Turner to pound the Cowboys in the second half of this game. I see the Falcons having a chance to win this game straight up. Anyways, I'm not sold on the Cowboys yet, so I will take this solid Falcons team, and the points.

Dolphins +7
This is a tough game here, but I think it ends up being a close one that comes down to a last minute drive, so I will take the 7pts. I see the Fins game plan just being to pound the ball with their number 1 rushing attack. And without Fujita, I see the Saints struggling to stop it. He is their best run stopper, and makes that defense go. The Fins know they must dominate t.o.p if they want to stop Brees and co., and have a chance to win this game. As long as they don't get down early, they will keep this one close...

Chiefs +6
I'll continue to ride this Chiefs squad and fade the Chargers, until the Chargers prove me wrong. As long as they got Turner as their coach, the underdogs always have a chance. The Chargers, even with all their on the offensive side of the ball, struggle on defense. And even though this is a must win, and they got embarrased last week, isn't going to change the D. I see this game actually being a shootout, so that is why I like the 6 pts better. LJ finally showed some burst last week, and I look for that to continue vs this Chargers run D. They are ranked 27th vs the run, and they won't do any better this weekend. This Chargers D is hurting, and I see Bowe and Cass having big games in this one. I know this KC team struggles, but they always do play hard, especially at home. I will take the pts...

Steelers -4
I think this is the week Minnesota finally loses. They have been escaping every single week, and now they need to go into Pitt in a tough road game. Pitt always gets up for big games, and I see them dominating this one. A dangerous weapon for the Vikings in Harvin is injured, and the Vikings are missing their best CB in Winfield. The Winfield injury is huge, because this isn't your old Pitts Steelers. This new Steelers squad is throwing the ball all over the field, and I see Big Ben and this Steelers O having a huge game passing the ball. Minn's pass D was ranked 24th vs the pass, and that was with Winfield. Without means bad news for the Vikes. This Pitt D is already tough to throw against, and they should play the run well today at home as well. With Troy P back in the game, look for the Steelers to win this one by at least a TD.

Also, I don't know why but these Colts and Pats line scare me. Tease them if you want another winner too. Go BEARS!!!

(Overall 20-12)

Colts -13

Why mess with a good thing? The Colts have been winning and winning big. They are coming off a bye week. Drew Brees and Peyton Manning are in a MVP showdown, so I expect Peyton to come out swinging against a bad Rams defense. Gotta get those stats. On defense, Bob Sanders is expected to make his return this week. Meanwhile, the Rams did show some life last week against the Jaguars, but still ended up choking the game away. If David Garrard was able to throw the ball around against the Rams, I think Peyton can do the same thing. Colts in a romp.

Steelers -4

I believe the Steelers are finally rounding into shape. Its true that even the Browns were able to move the ball at times against the Steelers, and that in his return to game action Troy Polamalu didn't look like he did before. He seemed a bit off. But Ray Rice had a huge day against the Vikings, and that game was in Minnesota. I think the Steelers play the same kind of ball. The Ravens are a pass first team now, as are the Steelers. With Rashard Mendenhall in the Ray Rice roll, I think they will crush the Vikings this week. Ben Roethlisberger is having a career year throwing the ball. Those guys will be amped playing the undefeated Vikings at Heinz. They always seem to show up for huge non-divisional games like this at home.

Patriots -14.5

This Josh Johnson looks pretty decent from the times I've seen him. The Bucs might have a decision to make in the future of whether to keep giving him the ball or to hand the reins over to 1st round pick Josh "Soul Glo" Freeman. But for now, I don't see how they can keep up with Tom Brady and these Patriots. The Bucs will need to execute a flawless gameplan of ball possession offense to keep the Pats off the field, and I don't see their rookie coach or qb being able to pull off the feat. Especially since this game is being played in London which will cost both teams some practice team for travel purposes. I think that hurts the Bucs more so look for another 4+ TD game from Brady, and another Patriots romp.

Dolphins +6.5

Miami is abuzz about the revitalized Dolphins. They looked great in their Monday Night win over the Jets, and have had a bye week to prepare for this game. The best way to beat the Saints? Keep Drew Brees on the sidelines. The Dolphins are proving that their Wildcat is no fluke this year. Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Ted Ginn, Pat White, etc... you get the point...there are a lot of different looks they can give you. And Chad Henne is slowly being allowed to let 'er rip. Meanwhile, the Saints played about as well as human beings can play football last week and made the G-Men look dumb. But I feel a little bit of a let down this week, as they've been getting jacked up in the media all week as THE team to beat. Remember, the Giants were playing without more than half their starting secondary. I feel the Dolphins keep it close, so I'll take the points.

Jets -6

Its pretty simple for me. No way Jamarcus plays as well. And no way Mark Sanchez plays as bad. It'll be interesting to see how The Sanchise responds to his first truly bad game, and how Jamavcus responds to success. What are the odds Jamarcus got just tore up this week at the club? Like 1:5? Read the article on espn.com about his progress as a QB. Good stuff. Yea, I don't see this ending well for him this week. And after that hot start the Jets have cooled off. I look for them to try to confuse Jamarcus with various blitz packages and to use Thomas Jones early and often. He had 200 yards last week! I'll take the Jets here.

Ip's Pix:
(Last week 3-2)
(Overall 10-13-1)

Colts (-14)

Peyton Manning on turf coming off a bye week? Forget about it. Look for the Colts to move the ball at will against a broken Rams defense and pancake whatever QB the rams put out there. The line is huge, but take the Colts to cover.

Giants (-7)

Coming off a loss in Louisiana, the Giants need this win to keep their strangle hold on the NFC East. The running game should fare well against the Cardinals and Eli with protection is lethal. This game will be a high scoring one as Warner and Co. can put up some points, but I think the Giants pass rush and offensive attack will be too much. Giants by 13.

Vikings (+5.5)

Im not a big fan of he Minnesota Purples, but I like them in this game. The Steelers do not have a rushing attack and are relying on Big Ben’s arm to get them to victory. Jared Allen is a tyrant on defense and the Steelers will have fits with him. Even though Troy Polamalu is back, I don’t think that will be enough to stop this balanced Viking attack. Look for the Vikes to come in to Steel country and steal a victory from the AFC. Vikings by 4

Saints (-7)

This game is a little tricky. The Fins control the clock very well with the mythical Wildcat offense. The key to this game is will the Saints defense be able to get the Dolphins offense off the field fast enough. If they do, this one is a wrap. If they do not it will be a dog fight. I think the Saints have been good on that side of the ball and will be able to get the Dolphins off the field just enough to let Drew Brees put up some points. Saints by 10.

Texans (-3)

One of the enigmatic teams in the NFL. You just don’t know what you are going to get from the Texans and frankly that scares me. But I think a healthy Matt Schaub is proving that he is a special talent in the league and presuming he stays in the game I think the Texans score enough to win the debut of Michael Crabtree. Frank Gore will be back this game but I think it will take him a few games to get back to his old self. Texans by 9

JAY CUTLER SIGNS 2 YEAR EXTENSION WITH THE BEARS

The Bears and Cutler finally got a deal worked out tonight, and I'm sure both sides are happy. As we all know, it was only a matter of time until Cutler got his extension, and I'm happy they got it done when they did. The Bears had a ton of money left under the cap this year, so this works out well for them in that regard as well. I first heard about this on twitter today, via Brad Biggs, so shout out to him for breaking it...

The deal is worth $30 million in new money, with Cutler receiving $20 million in guarantees. That new figure, combined with Cutler's existing contract, means the quarterback will collect roughly $50 million over the next five years. This now has Cutler locked in as a Bear until 2013!!! WOO HOO!!!

Now that this deal is done, Jay please take us to the promiseland! Let's go Bears!!!

STONE COLD LEAD PIPE DOCKS - WEEK 6

Docksquad aka Vik's Pix:
(Last Week 3-1-1)
(Overall 7-2-1)

Rams +10

I know everyone is going to laugh at this pick, because the Rams are so terrible, and maybe getting married is making my mind play tricks on me, but I think the Rams keep this game close. I watched their entire game vs the Vikings last week, and they were able to move the ball at will. Their only problem last week was that every time they got to the red zone, they became the uhhh RAMS MAN, and fumbled or threw picks, and made bone headed plays. That happened against the Vikings, who have a hot defense right now. Now even though the Jags are at home and want to hit someone after getting humiliated on the road at Seattle, I think their defense lets them down in this one. They are one of the the worst pash rushing team in the NFL, they give up the 4th most passing TD's, their CB Mathis is out, and their LB's are hurt. Now I know the Rams are not a Juggernaut offense, but they do have some weapons in SJAX and Donnie Avery, and I see SJAX getting his first touchdown of the season vs the Jags. Also with Bulger back, look for him to get the ball to Donnie Avery often today. Last week once he got into the game, him and Avery connected on multiple occasions, and because the Jags have no pass rush, Bulger will be able to sit in the pocket, and take his chances down the field with Avery. I know Bulger has regressed a lot over the past few years, but that is because he has been running for his life because his OLINE was so terrible. The OLINE has improved, and again, the JAGS have no pass rush, and when Bulger gets time and is not on the move, he is still a very capable QB. Lastly I know the Rams are like the new Lions, who haven't won a game in forever, but when I watched them play last weekend, they were still trying and hadn't given up yet. Because of these reasons, I will take the points in this one...

Chiefs +7

Until the Skins prove to me that they are good enough to give an entire TD to someone, I am going to take a team like the Chiefs vs them all day. The Chiefs keep games close, and even though they aren't the overall best football team, they do have some talent on the squad. More importantly, they are still trying to win. I don't think you can say the same about the Skins, who virtually look dead out there. They have a lame duck coach in my opinion, and the players don't even look like they want to win a game for the guy. They gift wrapped the Panthers the game last weekend, and they have been doing that all year long. Their starting LT Chris Samuels is out, and they are plugging in an undrafted LT in his place. Not good my friends. This probably means they will keep their best offensive weapon in Chris Cooley on the line to help block. For a team lacking offensive weapons, this is huge. On the KC side of things, Cass is starting to play a lot better, and you could see him gaining some confidence in Dallas last weekend. Him and Bowe finally started connecting at the end of the game, so they should be able to do the same thing this weekend, vs a weak secondary. They will run some no huddle offense, and get Haynesworth tired, and make him ineffective. Their should also be some bad weather that comes into play today, with some fore casted rain and win. And, I don't see how there will be a home field advantage here, with the Skins getting booed in their own stadium. With all of that, and the Skins just being a terrible team, I will take the 7 pts...

Panthers -3

I'm thinking the Panthers come from behind Win last weekend gives them some confidence going into this game. TB is 28th against the run, and the running game is what the Panthers do best. They have two strong RB's, and a very huge offensive line as opposed to the Bucs, who have a very small defensive front, so this plays into the Panthers hands for this game. Also, TB gives up big plays on defense, so look for Steve Smith to get a TD today off a play action, after the Panthers start off pounding the ball on the ground. TB on the other hand are still going through the bumps and bruises of a rookie QB, and even though he has shown a few flashes out there, I still don't think he is ready to pull out this W. With Antonio Bryant still not looking like himself, I just don't see them having any weapons on the offensive side of the ball other than Winslow, and that guy is one of the most inconsistent players in football. The Panthers know they need a win badly, and I see them pulling this game out in the 2nd half, after their running game wears out the Bucs...

Jets -9

The Jets and their coach Rex Ryan are fuming after their loss on MNF vs the Fins. Rex Ryan called their defense an embarrassment and they are looking to send a message this week. Who comes into town? The garbage Bills, which imo, is the perfect recipe for a waxing. The Jets will put Revis on TO, and shut him out of the game. Their D will be fired up, but the Bills don't really even have any other weapons to contend with these Jets. Their QB and Coach are lost, and they couldn't even win at home vs the Browns after the Browns QB completed only 2 passes. How are they going to go in and even keep this game close vs the JETS? The Bills also have a terrible, and small OLINE, which will get eaten up today vs this DLINE. The Jets OLINE AND DLINE will dominate this game on both sides of the ball. I see them pounding the rock with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. This will open things up for Sanchez in the second half, and look for him to get BEdwards the rock down the field later in the game too. I think this the Jets win this game by two tds, at the least...

Pats -9

Tom Brady and BChucky are mad, and that is usually not a good combo for opposing teams. The Pats return home after blowing that game last weekend vs the Broncos, and they will be looking to stomp these helpless Titans to send a message. Brady had a ton of WR's open last weekend, but played unBrady like, and missed a ton of easy passes. I know he will check out film and bounce back strong this week, and it doesn't hurt that the Titans have no one on defense. They have rookie CB's and with a ton of their players hurt, a bunch of no namers on the depth chart. I mean they picked up Rod Hood for God's sake. We saw Manning light them up last week, and look for Brady to do the same today. They will spread the ball out, and Brady will hit everyone all over the place. If the Titans were going to win a game, it was going to be last weekend. With the VY experiment starting up again, I just don't see them keeping this one close...

Suman's Pix:
(Last Week 3-2)
(Overall 17-10)

Jaguars -9.5

The Jaguars were awful last week. Mike Sims-Walker killed my fantasy team when he got suspended for the week, and it wasn't announced until 30 minutes before the 4pm kickoff. Still pissed off. And MJD popped off in the media this week about how the Jags offense sucks. So I expect some fire from these guys this week when they return home to play the lowly Rams. Sims-Walker is back in the lineup and should add some vertical pop to the team. MJD just seems like a dude that backs it up when he says some shit like what he said. And once again, the Rams are lowly. Really lowly. Bulger, Boller, it doesn't matter I think the Jags will smoke em this week.

Chiefs +6.5

Wow there are like 4 or 5 games this week that nobody will probably watch. Like 1,000 people in the entire world will watch these games. This is one of them. I'll take the points here as the Redskins haven't beat anybody convincingly yet this year. Matt Cassell looked decent last week against the Cowboys, so I think he'll be able to handle the 'Skins too. I'm getting aggravated just thinking about this game, lets just move on...

Packers -13.5

Pretty simple the Lions don't have a healthy Calvin Johnson. GB is coming off a bye week and a humiliating loss in Minnesota. If the Packers want to be taken seriously as a contender they'll bury Detroit by 3 Tds.

Eagles -14

I'm going to keep picking the good team whenever the truly good 4 or 5 teams in the league play one of the 4 or 5 shitty ones. The Eagles are good, and the Raiders suck. Keep it simple stupid. Eli Manning torched the Raiders secondary last week in one half of play. I think McNabb and eventually Kevin Kolb will do the same thing this week. Jamarcus Russell has overtaken the Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn combo as worst QB in the league. Man this guy is just terrible. He is so bad at what he does in life. But the thing is he will have made $20 million more than I will in my entire life, even though I'm probably better at what I do than he is at what he does. I dunno. The universe is a weird creature.

Patriots -9.5

I obviously don't see the Patriots losing 2 weeks in a row. They return home from a tough trip to Denver, but I see them destroying the Titans here. Especially if Vince Young sees the light of day. Peyton Manning and every other QB that has played the Titans has picked that secondary apart, so I see Tom Brady doing the same thing. Who would have thought that the Titans would have be staring 0-6 in the face right now??? Not me. Maybe Albert Haynesworth was the MVP of the league last year...

IP's Pix:
(Last week 3-2)
(Overall 7-11-1)

Ravens +3

The battle of the purple jerseys, the Ravens versus the Vikings. The Vikings are coming off impressive wins over the Packers and then the Rams during their short week last week. They are riding high off the play of Brett Favre and Jared Allen. This game will be a true test of where they really stand. The Ravens are coming off back to back losses and are spiraling a little bit. The early season potent offense has not been clicking the last couple of weeks. Look for that to change in this game. Their running attack will make the ultra aggressive Vikings pass rush pay. Look for the Ravens to run off their left tackle all day to keep Allen honest. Ravens by 4...

Patriots -9

Tom Brady is pissed….Bellicheck is pissed…….Moss has been quiet…….Tennessee has no pass defense. This one going to get UGLY!!!

Eagles-14

This line is ridiculous but that’s how bad these Raiders are. I don’t see how they are going stop the Eagles or score on the Eagles. This one may be over by halftime. Sam Bradford, what you think of Oakland, player?

Chargers-3.5

Big division match up right here. If the Broncos win this one, you can kiss the division goodbye San Diego. With that being said, the Broncos have been stellar at home, let’s see what they can do in a hostile environment, on the road, in a division game. My feelings are that a determined Charger team will be ready for them. Chargers by 7.

Cardinals +3

Seattle got a shot in the arm with their QB, Matt Hasslebeck coming back against the Jaguars last weekend. S laid a whopping on them. But this division matchup will be much more competitive. The Cardinals have a offensive attack that is potent and will give the Seahawk defense fits. The question is can the Cardinals D hold up against a revitalized Seahawk offense? In the end I think Warner, Fitzy, and Boldin will be too much for the Seahawks.

Turner Network Television (TNT), home of exclusive Thursday night NBA doubleheaders and the Emmy®-award winning Inside the NBA show, announced today that actor Rainn Wilson, Emmy®-nominated star of the sitcom "The Office," will star in a series of exclusive spots promoting the 2009-10 NBA season on TNT. The spots are driven by the concept of taxicab confessionals with Wilson serving as the cabbie to marquee NBA players Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic), Gilbert Arenas (Washington Wizards), Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls) and Deron Williams (Utah Jazz).

"Ever since I was growing up watching the Seattle SuperSonics I've been the hugest NBA fan. So of course I was thrilled to be working with the some worlds greatest (and tallest!) athletes," said Wilson. "Although, I have to say, enough with this baggy shorts nonsense. STONE COLD LEAD PIPE DOCKS - WEEK 5

Vik's Pix:

Panthers -3

I'm probably most confident about this bet. The Skins have been a major disappointment all year long, and I see that continuing today on the road today vs a hungry Panthers team. Campbell and co. have been struggling, and I think the Panthers pass defense keeps Campbell in check today. The Panthers have the worst run defense, but I just don't see Portis taking over a game by himself. He is also beefing with his starting FB, uhhh he blocks for you man. The Panthers are rested and coming off a bye, and I definitely see them having success on the ground today. That will then open up the DelH to Steve Smith combo we are all used to seeing, towards the end of the game. Zorn, get ahold of your team man. All that money on this roster, and they don't even look like they want to be there. Anywyas, Haynesworth and a couple of pieces on the Skins defense are hurting, and I just don't see them stopping this Panthers rushing attack today. Panthers run wild in this one...

Chiefs+9

This line right now is anywhere from 7.5-9 pts. I'd buy it to 8 to be safe, but I don't think you will need it. The Cowboys have been maybe the most disappointing team in the League. If you have seen them play, they are just not playing well on either side of the ball. They are banged up as well, which I think will come into play, because this team is not deep at all. Now yes, I know the Boys really need this game, I know the Chiefs are terrible, and I know that everyone thinks Romo is going to snap off in this game vs a weak D, and the Barber will run wild. With all that said, the Chiefs always play well at home, Bowe is going to light up this weak boys secondary, and Cass will keep them in the game until the end.

Vikings -10

I know the Vikings might be in for a let down game, but I just don't see it here. The Rams are terrible and the Vikings are better in every facet of this football game. The Vikings O and D lines are maybe 10 times better than the Rams lines right now, so I see them mauling the Rams in this one. Look for APete to have a huge day, and for Favre to stay in control and cruise to victory. IF you are afraid of a backdoor cover, maybe play the Vikings in the first half. If for some reason the Vikings are tied or down after the first half, go all in with them in the second half. Make it your LOD!!! But for real, I just don't see the Rams putting up points in this one. The Rams WR's are all injured, including Avery who has a hamstring injury. SJax is their only weapon, and it'll be tough for him to run up the middle. They might be able to get him to the outside on some swing passes, so that might be their only chance to score in this one.

Browns+6

The Buffalo Bills are terrible. Yes, I know the Browns are terrible, but the Bills are just as bad. They should not be giving points to anyone, so I'll gladly take the points in this one. When two bad teams face each other, take the points. Also, with Brylan gone, the Browns might even play better! Addition by subtraction. The guy was a cancer in the locker room, and his teammates, AND LEBRON, were happy to see him leave. I look for the Browns Jerome Harrison to have a great day, and quite possibly, even carry them to a victory. Sorry Dick, but your time may be up in Buffalo...

Texans +6

Everytime I bet on the Texans, they lose. I'm serious. I'm just playing this dogs this week, and I'm just betting against teams laying a lot of points, that just aren't very good right now. Talk about a Super Bowl hangover. The Cardinals are struggling. I don't know if this team will even make the playoffs this year. I don't know what it is, but this just isn't the same team as last year. Also, I know they play well at home, but I think the Texans offense can keep up with them in this one. I'll take the points...

Suman's Pix:

Eagles -15

Vegas seems to be catching on. It seems to me a lot of the big dogs in the NFL are covering early in the season, especially when they play one of the really horrible teams (Rams, Browns, Bucs, Raiders). Well this is a case of a really bad team playing one of the big dogs. And the big dog in this case is coming off a bye week, and will have its starting QB back. According to several sources, Vegas is getting killed early in the season so they are definitely inflating these lines now. But Josh Johnson against this Eagles D off a bye??? C'mon son.

Panthers -4
I not only don't like, but hate the direction these 2 teams are headed in. Both kind of suck. No life. However, the Redskins have looked worse so far this season in my opinion. The Panthers have had the horrible stench of defeat on them for 2 weeks, as they had a bye week last week. Delhomme is probably dying to get back onto the field, while the Redskins might be the worst coached team in the NFL compared to how much talent they have. I see DeAngelo running wild, and the Panthers running away with this one.

Vikings -10
Screw a letdown. Screw a short week. These Rams might be the worst team in the NFL. If Kyle Boller starts, and if I were a gambling man, I would bet my 2003 Grand Am on this one. The Rams can't muster anything on offense, and can't stop anyone on defense. Meanwhile, the Vikings might be the most explosive team in the league. I don't think Favre will have the type of week he had last week, but he won't have to.

Steelers -10.5
With or without Matt Stafford I see the Steelers dominating this one on the lines. I'm sure they'll go hard, pause, with Rashard Mendenhall in this one to see if they found something or if it was a fluke. I'm so pissed I didn't up the ante on my fantasy football trade offers for Mendenhall earlier in the year. I figured he'd bust out, and I was hoping to snag him before everyone recognized. But no dice. Culpepper/Stafford might rack up the yards. But the Steelers show up with a healthy Troy Polamalu. If thats the case, bet your Grand Am too.

Colts -3.5
Well I'm 5/5 picking favorites this week which may be a first for me. But I don't see how the Titans can keep up with the machine right now. Mannning is playing out of this world. MVP. Meanwhile the Titans pass D is horrendous right now, especially if Cortland Finnegan is out again. I know the Titans have to come through one of these weekends, but I don't see that happening this weekend.

IP's Pix:

Jets +2- Rough week for the Sanchise………made two costly turnovers that were basically the difference in the game against the Saints. The boy has to take him lumps somewhere and it happened in the Bayou. Look for the Jets to bounce back with a strong effort in Miami against the Fins. Braylon “Flood pants” Edwards will help the J-E-T-S take this one by a touchdown.

Colts -3.5- A division game agains the Titans is always a tough task for the Colts and they seem to play low scoring games. But this unit will not be able to pressure Peyton Manning and that will spell DOOM for them. Unless the Titans control the clock with their running game, this one is a wrap. Colts by 10.

Patriots-3- Master vs. Student. Beliichucky vs. Daniels. This games has some sentimentality to it but once the ball is kicked, all the pleasantries are done. Elvis Dumervil is a beast and is the key to this game. If they can contain him and give Brady a little bit of time, then the pats can put up some points. However if he can’t keep his shirt clean its going to be long day. I think the Pats coaching staff will be well prepared and will do enough to win this game by a touch.

Falcons +2.5- The feel good story of the year so far is the 49ers. They play passionately on defense and are very protective of the ball on offense. This game will be a close one but I think the poise of Matt Ryan and the addition of tony Gonzalez will be the difference in this game with the Falcons winnign by a field goal.

Bengals+9- UPSET OF THE WEEK. I like the Bungals in this one. The spread is pretty large and I just don’t think the Ravens are 9 points better. Look for Carson & Co. to keep the game close and the Bengals pass rush to cause some havoc. IMO I think the Bengals will ekk this one out and get the W outright, but if not they will definitely not lose by 2 scores. GO BENGALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STONE COLD LEAD PIPE DOCKS OF WEEK 4

Hard to believe that a almost quarter of the NFL season is in the books. FIrst and foremost, the minions here at DSS would like to congratulate the master of this domain, Vik, on finally tying the knot. He'll be back in the states posting non-sensical Derrick Rose interviews in no time. Vik has been bragging about making a killing in the NFL thus far, so hopefully he'll be back next week with his picks. Nevertheless he is still the leader in the clubhouse so far. I had a bad week going 2-3. The 3 losses weren't even close either. But I did manage to correctly predict the 2 AFC North games, so at least I understand my home turf.

A lot of intriguing games this week headlined by Favre playing against the Pack on Monday night. Whatever the word is for the opposite of headline (toeline? uhhhh) well thats what the Redskins v. Buccaneers is this week. There is no amount of money you could pay me to watch that game in its entirety. Unlike last week, I see about 3 or 4 games that seem like mortal locks. Let's see if we can right the ship this week and get some 5-0 weeks. Onto the picks...

Suman (8-7)

Giants -9

My man Peter King highlighted it in his picks this week on Sports Illustrated that basically this should be a 9 point spread for the first quarter. I understand that this is the Giants 3rd straight road game, and that going on the road that much is definitely trying. I don't care. This spread could be -20 and I'd probably take it. This Chiefs team has experienced some injuries, but outside of the Browns I don't think anybody has looked worse to open the season. With D-Bowe out of the lineup they have absolutely nothing that scares you. He might be back, but nevertheless I will take the buzzsaw and hope they keep it going.

Colts -10.5

This is under the assumption that Seneca Wallace will be starting for the Seahawks. Him against Peyton? Please. I'll take the other Manning brother to keep that Colts offense humming in another blowout. Mount Union's finest, Pierre Garcon, has really elevated his game. Honestly, he might be a more dangerous threat than Anthony Gonzalez. Reggie Wayne is playing All-Pro ball right now. Did you see those 2 one handed catches??? If Gonzo and Bob Sanders come back healthy this team might be odds on favorite for the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, I just don't see enough firepower from the Seahawks to make this a game.

49ers -9.5

I hate taking another game with huge points, but I have to. Glen Coffee looked explosive the times I saw him play in the preseason so I think he'll fill in admirally for Gore. Ladies and gentleman, I introduce you to Shaun Hill! Folks might not being recognizing, but this guy is like 10-3 or something crazy as a starter. Just plug in your cliches about how he is making such good decisions here. But he really is. You have to love the way Mike Singletary has turned this club from one of the softest teams in the league to the new bullies on the block. They are defintely overachieving right now compared to the talent they have on the squad, but its not a fluke. I love it. If only this idiot Crabtree was out there...On another note I believe Kyle Boller is starting for the Rams.

Broncos +3

This is probably the one team from my preseason preview that I'm most mad about. I definitely pegged them in the wrong spot. Say what you want about their easy schedule and their lucky win against the Bengals, but they defintely are fighting for their new coach. That defense has looked great, and Kyle Orton is doing what he did in Chicago. Nothing great, but nothing bad either. Sorry, but I don't know why Vegas is disrespecting them that much by making them home dawgs to the 'Boys. Dallas hasn't looked THAT great. I say Buckhalter and Moreno run wild, and the Broncos win at home.

Vikings -3

Had to do this to piss of Packer Nation. I think Favre delivers. Too much riding on it. The Packers, darlings of the NFL preseason, have been lackluster. They haven't been terrible, but you can tell they are having issues on their O-line. This isn't the team to try to right the ship against. I love A-Pete in this spot as it seems like he always busts a long one (pause) in national tv games. The only thing to worry about is a letdown after that emotional win last week. To be honest, the Vikings won a game they shouldn't have. They played 2 cupcakes to open the season, faced a tough team in week 3 that hit them in the chin, took the punch and hit back. Thats what good teams do.

IP (5-4-1)

San Diego +6.5

My beloved Chargers are going East to play the vaunted steel curtain. The Steelers are on a losing streak and will be on their game this weekend. However, Philip rivers and the Chargers will be too much for them this weekend. The Steelers are having issues running the ball and will not be able to win let alone cover with Big Ben throwing it over 30 times. I like the Chargers to win this game outright on the road. YEAH I SAID IT!

Dallas -3

The Tony Romo show is going into Denver to play the undefeated Broncos. This is a game where we will see if Denver is for real or a product of a cupcake schedule (sans Cincy). I like the fact that Dallas is looking to run the ball all over other teams and control time of possession. The defense is finally turning the pressure up with the pass rush. Look for Dallas to go into Mile High and win this one by 10.

Jets +7

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!! People probably thinkig I am crazy here betting against Drew Cool Brees, but the Jets defense is fierce. They did a magnificent job of disrupting Brady and the Pats a couple of weeks ago and look for the same to happen here. The Jets D will force Brees into quick reads and will collapse the pocket. Plus mark Sanchez is the real deal and against a suspect defense I really like the Jets keeping this one close and maybe even stealing one at the Superdome.

Giants -9

Giants vs. the Chefs….enough said. Let’s hope the Giants are merciful like they were last week against the Bucs. WAXING!!!!!!!!!

Bengals -6

The interstate game between the Browns and the hard Knock Bungals should be a good one. The Browns have looked terrible the first 3 weeks and made the move to the gun slinging Derrick Anderson. I think they will move the ball a little bit and have some shots downfield. However, DA is turnover prone and will cost his team with his brash decision making. Look for my boys Palmer and C-Ben to dominate the offensive side of the ball. I got the Bengals by 10 in this one.

Vik (4-1)
