Annnnnnd, we're back after a great / insane Week 1 in the NFL. In week 1 we saw a ton of nutty things take place around the League, including Brady going down for the Pats, DA BEARS upsetting the Colts, SD going down in the last secs to the Panthers, the Falcons and Ravens winning with Rookie QB's at the helm, AR with a successful debut for the Packers, and with Cutler and the Broncos smoking the Raiders on MNF.
IP and myself both got killed because we put our faith and MONEY on the LIONS (thanks Sank), and trust me, that is a mistake that won't happen again. We ended up going 4-6 combined, 2-3 each respectively, but hopefully we can right the ship this weekend, and get everyone some winners.
With week 2 of our Stone Cold Lead Pipe Docks of the Week, we give you our picks below. GLUCK!!!
IP'S PIX:
(2-3 overall)
New England vs. N.Y. Jets (Jets -2.5) - How the outlook on the season can change quickly hmm? Now that Big Bad Brady is out, people seem to be writing off these Pats…not this prognosticator. That evil genius Beli-Chucky is a nut and will have QB Cassel ready. Favre was the feel good story last week but Mangini's lack of trust in his gun slinging style will hurt them in this game. Pats by a touch. New England 27-20
Miami vs. Arizona (Zona by 7) - Matt Leinart who? Kurt Vonnegut Warner has the weapons and the confidence to lead this pretty sick Cardinals attack. Miami played with a lot of heart at home last week and Pennington showed me a lot in his near comeback win. With all this said Arizona is at home and winning on the road is a tall order in the NFL. Too much offense for Miami's soft defense…….Zona by 10. Arizona 27-17
New Orleans vs. Washington (Pick Em)- Reggie Bush PLAYAAAAAAAAAAAA. Have been a big fan of this athlete for a while now and have been super envious of him since his collaboration with Kim Kardashian (WOW). Bush is not your traditional 30 carry a game back but he adds a unique dimension in the game…he is able to lineup anywhere on the field and be a threat to take it to the house. Washington is just inconsistent…..don't know which team will show up. What I do know is Drew Brees takes care of the ball and even with Colston out the offense should be able to carry the load. If the Saints front line can get some up field pressure they win this game. Saints 26-20
Indianapolis vs. Minnesota (Colts -2) - bad week one for Manning………not horrible stats but not what we expect from the commercial king of the NFL. I attribute a lot of his struggles to not taking many reps prior to the game….something he will have this week. Look for Manning and the Colts to light up the scoreboard this week…..the only question is can Adrian Peterson match them score for score? Sucks for the Vikings that they play the game without the quarterback position…..Tarvaris Jackson please stand up……Indy 35-17
LOCK OF THE WEEK
San Diego vs. Denver (Pick Em) - Delhomme and that darn pump fake!!!!!!!!! It took the perfect pass to beat the Chargers last week and he did it. Nonetheless I heart the Chargers and will once again take them this week. L.T. had a slow week one but he owns the Broncos and I don't see this trend stopping this week on a suspect defense. Jay-Z Cutler is freaking awesome but this Chargers defense will be amped up after last week. I think this week we see how far along Cutletzzzz is. If Philip rivers continues his solid play from week one, Chargers win this game by 10. Chargers 24-14
VIK'S PIX:
(2-3 overall)
Saints(PK EM) at Redskins - I love the Saints in this one. Now I know the Saints struggled on the road last year, and that Colston is out for them with a thumb injury, but I still see them outgunning the Skins in this one. Well not really out gunning, because the Skins offense is plain putrid right now, but the Saints will play a better overall football game then the Skins this weekend. While the Skins defense is pretty solid, I still see Brees, Bush & Co. putting up big numbers in this one. They were back to their consistent selves last week, so look for Brees to have a big game spreading the ball around, and for Bush and Pierre Thomas to be too much on the ground for the Skins to handle. The Saints D also made some big stops in last week's game, and that might be the key to their success this year. The Skins on offense looked lost last week vs the Giants, and I look for that to continue this weekend vs the Saints. They are all learning a new offense, and I just don't see Campbell or Portis having enough in the tank to hang with the Saints in this one. Take the Saints to the Bank!
Eagles(+7) at Cowboys - Now some people are going to call me crazy for this one, but I love the Eagles in this game. I really do think they have a chance at straight up winning the game, so this might be a nice ML bet as well. McNabb in his 2nd yr back from ACL surgery is playing amazing football right now, and I look for him to have another big game in this one. His group of WR's really stepped up last week, and even though there is not really a go to guy in this batch, they are all getting separation from their defenders, and I look for that to continue this week against the Cowboys secondary. Westbrook is always a monster and look for him to have a huge huge game on the ground and out of the backfield. We all know Romo and TO are going to have huge games as well, but I think the Eagles defense can slow them down a little bit with some blitzes and by getting nice pressure on Romo. This game will definitely be a shootout, McNabb and Westbrook always step up for big games, and this one is pretty huge this early in the year, so they will step up. This is the Eagles and Cowboys, on MNF, in a division rivalry game, so I just think the 7 pts is wayy to much in this one. Take the pts.
Chargers at Broncos(pk em) - This will be the second week in a row I go against my counterpart's Lock of the week. Here's another game where everyone is going to ride on me for taking the underdog, but I'm really loving the Broncos in this one. Now I know they just beat the lowly Raiders last weekend, and that is nothing to get happy about, but to me that game showed me that Cutler is ready to take the next step this year. I loved him for fantasy this yr, and I love the fact that he gets Brandon Marshall back this week to bomb on the Chargers. The Chargers although a solid team, are beat up with injuries right now. LT and Gates are still feeling some ill effects of their injuries, and Merriman has been officially shut down for the rest of the year. Another reason I love the Broncos this week is that Rivers and Cutler have beef. I really think this will get the Broncos hyped and Cutler, Marshall, and their RBBC will have big games. I also think the home crowd will get this defense hyped up to be able to contain LT and Rivers this weekend. The Broncos defense is their weak spot, and they definitely did not get tested on Monday Night by the Raiders, so they will be the key to this game. But, I'm going to take the Broncos in this one.
Colts(-2) at Vikings - I'm definitely looking at a bounce back game here for the Colts in this one. With Dallas Clark questionable, I look for the Colts to go more 3WRS with A-GO, and for them to spread their offense and throw all day on the Vikings. The Vikings have a nice run defense, but their pass defense is terrible. The Oline and Manning will be more familiar with each other this week because of more reps together, and it will show in this one. I think the Vikings are overrated and I've been saying that all off season long to anyone that will listen. I haven't seen enough from their pass defense, or their QB to change my thoughts yet either. Watching TJax play on MNF was laughable. The guy couldn't hit anyone in the open field, and you can't just run flys with Berrian all day in the League. Even if you do, you can't overthrow your Wr's by ten yards every time. I don't see the Vikings keeping up with the Colts in this one, even though they badly need a win here. The Colts Tony D won't be out coached two games in a row, so look for him to put 8 in the box and for him to make TJax beat them. Unfortunately for the Vikings and their fans, that isn't happening.
Fins at Cards(-7) - I watched pretty much the entire Fins game last weekend, and I saw a team that although plays hard, just doesn't have enough talent to compete with a lot of the better teams out there. They will always be competitive, but I don't see them beating any good teams any time soon. Hopefully I am wrong because they are a good group of guys, I just hope it is not this weekend. The Cards have elevated their game, and that is because of two things... Their defense, and Kurt Warner. As long as Warner is healthy, he is going to be a solid QB in this offense, and that offense is just going to be too much for the Fins to handle this weekend. Look for Warner, Boldin, and Fitz to have huge games through the air because the Fins secondary is weak. If you thought Favre was gunnin last weekend, wait until you see this one on Sunday. The Cards D is also looking a little more consistent this year as well. The Cards also play a lot better at home(going off of last year), so I look for this one to be a rout. Take the Cards and give the pts.
Gluck everyone, and we hope you have a fun and profitable weekend. GO BEARS!!!
