I'm sure most of you know this, but if you don't, I'm a huge huge DWade fan. I'm really hope I am able to meet him one day (now that he is big time), so if you know him, hook a brother up! Anyways, check out this DWADE interview below if you get a second, because it is tight.
In the interview DWade talks about winning the Gold medal and his Olympics experience, which among other things, included using Kobe's help to land them some Mike Phelps tickets.
But more importantly, Wade talks about his "Young, Fly, and Flashy" weekend, where the proceeds from the weekend went to his Wade's World Charity Foundation.
DWade is another great example of a famous athlete giving back to his community, and for me, this is great to see. I had the pleasure of being at Marquette University when Wade was there, and at MU we got to see first hand just how humble Wade was. At school DWade wasn't just another "College Superstar" who was rude to his fans and other students there, and someone who did nothing to give back (trust me, I knew some of those athletes). Wade was actually the opposite, a very nice guy to all who approached him, and one who used to do a ton of community service events at MU. He definitely gave back to the Milwaukee community during his college experience, even back then. What's even sweeter to see is that Wade has not let "fame" change him. Even though his superstardom has grown to gigantic proportions since MU, DWADE is still giving back to the community, and that speaks wonders about his character.
Again, be sure to check out the interview below. My favorite thing DWade did during this "Young, Fly, and Flashy" weekend is that he visited Marshall and Simeon High Schools. He went there to talk to the local kids about gun violence, which has grown out of control in the Chicagoland area. It's sad but everyday, or pretty much every other day, someone is shot in the Chicagoland area. So far a ton of people have talked a lot about doing something about it, but it's nice to see someone who is actually making that a reality.
I'm hoping DWade can get a positive message across to a lot of these kids. One person definitely can make a difference, and hopefully for everyone, DWade is that person...
