This week the Bears are matched up vs a very good and physical Panthers team. I think the main difference in today's game will be that Carolina is going to attack the Bears Offense in a completely different way than the Colts did. The Panthers have a more physical front, and they will definitely be blitzing the Bears a ton more. The way the Bears counter that, might be the biggest key to this game. One thing is for sure, this game will be won in the trenches. Anyways, the Bears will win if they an do these following things in today's game...
- Pressure Delhomme - Last week the Bears defense was flying all over the place, and they were able to get to and confuse Manning during the game. They will need to do the same thing this week vs Delhomme whether it be by blitzing, or by just straight up pressure by the front four. Making the Panthers one dimensional will be important in this one, because I trust our ability to stop the run with the Defense we have. Also, look for Mush to be shutdown in this game. Tillman knows all his tendencies, and he used to give Mush fits in practice. Look for that to continue in this one.
- OLine must dominate/ We must run the ball - Our Oline played a lot better than expected last week, and we will need to see more of the same in this one. But, this week will be a lot tougher task for this OLine vs this very physical Panthers team. Their ends are stronger and faster and containing Peppers is going to be tough. The Bears are going to have to come up with schemes to counter against this including running towards his side, helping to block Peppers with a RB, and dumping off screens on the opposite side. The Panthers will also be blitzing a ton more than the Colts did in this one, so this will be a great test to see how good our OLine really is. We will also be running the ball a ton in this one and the OLine will need to get a nice push up front to open up holes for Forte and Jones. To me the Panthers are weak towards the run, so we should be able to exploit this if the OLine can get some push. The Panthers lost Jenkins and Rucker, so that middle is not as strong as it used to be. Let's attack them there. We need to stick with this "we come off the bus running" philosophy, don't abandon it Ron and Lovie.
- Orton will need to stretch the field - The Panthers are going to bring a lot of 8 man fronts and will be blitzing a ton in this game, so Orton will need to take his shots down the field. If Hester is your deep play threat, then unleash him in this game to try to counter those Defensive attacks by the Panthers. Orton will also need to limit his fumbles and interceptions in this game. Basically if Orton has 0 turnovers in this game, I am pretty confident we will win this game. This game will be a good indicator to show us all if Orton is really here to stay.
- Win the turnover battle - Following up a little on the above statement, if the Bears can win the turnover battle, we will win this game. That is our formula for success, and look for it to definitely be the key to our success in this weekend. Like I said above, if Orton can have 0 turnovers, we will win this game. I feel this way because we will definitely generate 1-2 turnovers in this one. The Bears D will need to have another dominant performance in this one.
- Win the Special Teams Phase - These teams are very similar on Offense and on Defense, but we do have the edge on Special Teams. The Bears will need to exploit that in this one to give them a winner's edge.
Limit Penalties and Injuries - Last week we didn't have that many penalties, and we did not suffer any significant injuries, and that went a long way towards our victory. We will need more of the same this week.
Gluck to our playaz and Go Bears!!!
