BEARS THOUGHTS

Sorry we missed a couple of Bears game recaps, but now we are back and better than ever. Here are some of our thoughts on preseason Games 3 and 4, on the players that got cut from our squad, Bears captains news, and some news about the Bears Colts game.

Really quickly here are our thoughts on preseason games 3 and 4.

Game 3...

Now we were at game 3, and it was a very weird game because some out of ordinary things took place. The defense that we expected to show up and shut down the Niners for 3 quarters, was basically a no show. JT OSULL (former Bear) torched the bears first string defense, and the first string D gave up 27 pts. Yes it was only preseason, but the Bears D missed a ton of tackles, botched a lot of coverages, and were out of their gaps a ton in this game. We'll talk about this a little later in the post.

On the other hand, we were very excited/ surprised to see Kyle Orton and our offense move the ball easily and put up a lot of pts. Yes we know this was vs the Niners Defense, but it was still nice to see the offense move the ball the way they did, and to see Kyle Orton make amazing throws. His first TD toss to Davis between two defenders was an unbelievable throw, and that throw is what we have been waiting to see from Orton for a long time. That throw made me realize that this is not the same Orton that played during his rookie season, that this Orton has come a long way and is a lot better. Orton would've actually had 3 tds in the game, all to RDavis, but Davis dropped another td which Orton threw on the money as well. Overall the offense was great in this game, and it was great to see.

The Special teams was amazing as usual, the only mistake by them coming on a fumble by GWolfe running back a kickoff. Otherwise they were as effective as they always are.

Game 4...

The first team defense looked bad in this one again. They were out on the field for two drives, and gave up 10 pts. Not a good sign going into the last week, but what can you do? Overall the defense has a lot of work to do if they want to be able to contain Manning and the Colts in game 1. We know they mostly just played base defenses in all of their pre season games, but honestly they did not look like their dominant selves at all during this preseason, aside from Game 2, and that was at times.

The offense did not look good in this one either, the first string at least. Wrexy came in to lead a nice TD drive and Hanie was solid as usual, but let's see what the first string can do vs the Colts.

The Special Teams were solid as usual. They are probably the best phase of our team right now because they have been the most consistent throughout the preseason. And this was without Hester even returning a punt or a kickoff. I can't wait until he runs one back this year!!!

Anyways, after those pre season games, the Bears had to cut some players to finalize their roster, so these were the players they cut...

Dan Bazuin, LPolite, MOkwo, NOsborn, PJ Pope, Mike Hass, Reed, Poles, Balogh, and Rideau.

Now let us say this right now, PJ Pope, Mike Hass, and B Rideau will be playing in the NFL sometime really soon. They are awesome players and we were sad to see them cut by the Bears. PJ Pope actually got signed onto the Broncos squad quickly. You think they know a little something about good RB's there up in Denver? Mike Hass was brought in by the Giants, and we wish him all the luck in the world. This guy busted his as$ weak in and weak out here, but never got a chance here in Chicago. He is a great possession WR and he will get his chance to shine one day, that is for sure. Rideau on the other hand was signed to the Bears practice squad, and we thank God for that. He was our most consistent WR during pre season, and this kid is definitely talented. We can't wait until he gets his chance here with the Bears, you won't be disappointed, trust us. Caleb Hanie was kept on the active roster as our QB3, and I was happy about that move as well.

Two players who the Bears cut were their 2nd and 3rd round picks from last year, Bazuin and Okwo. This is very disappointing because basically this means we traded Thomas Jones for nothing, because we got Bazuin as the move up from that deal. We also could have gotten some nice OLineman in the 2nd and 3rd rounds last year, but opted for these two instead. Both players were injured often, so we never got to see their full potential, which is another reason they got cut. Let's see if they can sign on somewhere else in the League, and we can then maybe judge them from there.

In other news, the Bears named their 2 Offensive and 2 Defensive starters this week. Orton and Olin were named the offensive captains, and Urlacher and Brown were the Defensive captains named. No real surprises there. These four guys will be vital to our success this year, so hopefully they can lead by example.

Looking ahead to Game 1 vs the Colts this Sunday, the Colts are missing their starting Center, Jeff Saturday. He is a huge component to the Colts offense, so he will definitely be missed. They are also missing Mike Pollack, another OLineman. Manning did practice this week and said he is ready to go, but hopefully the Bears can take advantage of these injuries to the OLine, and apply some pressure on Manning. We need to make him move around the pocket, and make him earn everything he gets. Hopefully we can tire him out towards the 2nd half. It will be a tough game, but if you are going to take on Manning and the Colts, there is no better time than to face them in week 1 where they are somewhat rusty, missing players, and in a new stadium for the first time.

On the Bears side of the ball, everyone practiced today and should be ready to go for the game. There were some reports that Harris would not practice today and not play in Sunday's game, but he dismissed those rumors quickly. That is a huge sigh of relief for all of us, because without Harris the Bears honestly wouldn't have stood a chance in this one.

Anyways that's about it for our Bears wrap, we will be back after the Game to tell you our thoughts. Go BEARS!!!
