It looks like BGeezy's time with the Bulls has come to an end. Ben Gordon, who is frustrated with his contract negotiations with the Bulls, had this to say today...
"I guess it's safe to say I've played my last game in a Bulls uniform"
When asked about signing the one year qualifying offer, he said...
"I'm definitely not taking it, I've already expressed that to them. I mean, that's not an option."
When asked about a sign and trade kinda deal possibly being worked out, he had this to say...
"I'm pretty optimistic it'll happen. It's very likely."
Gordon also went on to say this about the Bulls crowded backcourt...
"It's a numbers game. Last season at the trade deadline, they brought in more guards and I saw my minutes drop and didn't understand why. This year, the problem's still the same. I don't see it getting better, so maybe it'll be a better situation for me personally somewhere else."
I know he is not gone yet, but this pretty much looks like the BGeezy Era in Chicago is coming to a close. I know most people won't be sad about BGeezy leaving, especially now that we got Rose, but I will be.
I am a huge fan of Gordon's, and have been one since he put on a show in fourth quarters during his rookie season with the Bulls. He has provided us with some memorable moments throughout his years here, and I have yelled BGeezy one too many times to forget about. But at the same time, this is a business, and after giving Deng a huge extension, they just can't offer Gordon the kind of money he thinks he deserves. He feels like he is the best player on the squad, our leading scorer, and that he should be compensated for his services. We all know that there is no way Gordon will even get Deng type of money from the Bulls going forward, so we can understand his frustration. Unfortunately for Gordon, this is a terrible market for him, and no one else will even offer Gordon anything more than the Bulls are willing to offer him right now. That is why the Bulls hold the upper hand in these negotiations, and are not really budging on it a all.
Right now Gordon's best hope is really a sign and trade with another team. If that does not happen, Gordon is actually under contract with the Bulls for another year, so the only way he wouldn't come back is if he bounces for Europe, which is another possibility.
That being said, Europe might actually be the best place for Gordon to go, because I feel like he can become a star there. His game would blend in perfectly with the Euro style of play, and he would easily be a 20-25 ppg scorer.
One other possibility does exist for Gordon. He can say f it all, come back with the Bulls after signing the QO, and just play his as$ off. If he puts up great numbers, and helps the Bulls make the playoffs next year, he will definitely get paid. If not by the Bulls, then by someone else around the League.
The main question still remains, are any teams in Europe or here willing to offer Gordon the type of money he is looking for? Will anyone dish out 10-13 mill a year for Gordon? I just don't see it happening, so right now Gordon's best bet is to definitely try to work out a sign and trade with someone in the League. Let's see how it pans out.
GO BULLS!!!
