We here at Docksquad Sports love Sports in general, but we especially love Sports even more when athletes give back to their community or do charitable work, and show us a different side to the Sports World.
Now we all know about the Gordon contract dispute going on right now with the Bulls. This has caused a lot of my fellow Bulls fans to get down on Gordon, or as we like to call him, BGeezy, in Chicago. But, what a lot of people don't know about Gordon is that he loves to do Charity work, and he loves to give back to the community.
Ben Gordon has founded The Ben Gordon New Life Foundation, and with that Foundation he has been giving back to the Mount Vernon, NY area for four years now. This year Ben hosted a Charity Weekend to raise money for the Mt. Vernon High School Athletics fund. The Weekend Included a Bowling Event, Youth Festival, and a Basketball Clinic. These Events also featured some high profile guests to show up and help BGeezy's cause such as EOkafor, Charlie V, UMASS player Chris Lowe, Ed Lover, Elton Brand, Eddy Curry, and Q, to name a few.
We think what an athlete does off the court or field defines them just as much as they do on the court or field. What's sad, is that there are tons of other athletes out there that really just don't care enough to help out or are just too busy doing "other more important things". So when we see these athletes that do take time out of their busy schedules to give back, it really brings us joy. And for that reason, we will continue to try to find and post some of these stories for you guys, and we hope you enjoy them too.
Anyways, this Charity weekend definitely was an awesome event, and we really want to give BGeezy props for putting this on. Hopefully the Bulls and BGeezy can get his contract situation worked out soon, because we really love him as a Bull. Go BULLS!!!
We also were able to grab some videos of the Events off of YouTube, so please check it out below...
