BEARS GAME 1 RECAP

Boy am I glad football is back! Watching game 1 last week was pretty exciting for me. I don't think there is anything better than sitting on the couch with my dad, drinking a brew, and watching the Bears play.

Last week's game was a pretty good one, and yes I did tune in for the entire thing! I'm just briefly going to talk about what I thought about the game and about some good and broke performances.

Overall the game had some ups and downs. Rex and Orton were both just decent, making some good throws, and missing some bad ones. Both also showed some fumbling and bumbling, but as sad as that is, we should be used to that by now. Honestly I didn't see enough from either to say who had the better game there.

Another huge question mark going into the first game was RB Matt Forte, and I have to say, I was impressed. Right off the bat, I know this is nothing like big, but he just seemed head and shoulders above Cedric Bumson. The Bears gave Forte the ball a lot and often, and he looked solid out there. He also had some really nice receptions, and just looked like a good football player out there. His teammates already are loving him, which is another big difference between him and the Bumson. Let's see how he does this season, but this kid definitely impressed me in his first outing.

The defense had it's share of ups and downs as well. They played horrendous defense on the first drive, but after that, the first d stepped up and forced 3 quick 3 and outs, which was a good sign for the squad. Urlacher made some tackles, and showed no ill affects of his surgery, so that's definitely a good sign there. It also was great to see one of my favorite all time Bears, Mike Brown, back on the playing field making plays. The guy is the heart and soul of this team, and I just pray we have him healthy for the entire year. It was also great to see Vasher and Tillman back and healthy as well. The rest of the guys looked solid, so I am expecting big things from this defense.

Overall here are some players I was impressed with during the game...

Josh Beekman - From not playing at all last year, to starting in this game. He played really well and it is great to see him develop this year. He will give Metcalf a run for his money to start this season at LG.

John St. Clair - This guy was really amazing at LT last week, and he had some monster blocks. Played a really smart, aggressive game, and him and Beekman made some huge holes on that left side, which was great to see.

GWolfe - The kid isn't even a 100 percent, and he ripped off some monster plays receiving out of the backfield. Great job!

Mike Haas- He did what he is known to do, make acrobatic catches, and never drop a pass. Hope he makes the team somehow.

Apete - One of the best all around players on our team, does anything for our team, and can still run the ball if needed.

Pj Pope - Busted off some great runs and looked solid. Unfortunately, don't think he will make the squad.

Brandon Rideau -This kid is definitely a sleepr WR. He is tall, fast, can block, and makes great catches. I don't know if he'll make the squad either, but he is solid. Made a nice td catch and a nice block to spring Wolfe on a play.

Caleb Hannie - This guy looks like John Kitna to me for some reason. He was just ballin on cats, there is nothing else you can say about his performance. Of course he was going vs their third and fourth stringers, but his throws were solid and he showed great poise and touch in the pocket. The Bears would have actually won the game, if not for some drops on the last drive. His passes were perfect, even on those drops.

Kellen Davis - We already have two solid te's but this kid is the real deal. He is huge, fast, and made some great catches and blocks. Keep an eye on this kid.

Marcus Harrison - The Bears have been raving about this kid since they drafted him. They think he was a steal, and he hasn't disappointed in camp either. He had a great game, swatting a pass, and getting constant pressure on the qb, and plugging the run.

Rod Wilison - Had a nice pick and had some other nice plays.

A Adams - Monster sack , and has quietly entrenched himself as a possible starter next to Tommie Harris on Defense.

Disappointments...

Earl Bennet - Maybe it was just nerves, but Bennet seemed really slow to me during the game. He also did not look comfortable fielding punts, and dropped a huge pass in the final drive.

Marcus Monk - Thought I would see more from him in this one. Also dropped a huge pass in the fourth quarter.

Mark Bradley - I don't even see why this guy should make the team? I have seen nothing from him, for years. He hasn't even done well in practice, so I think the only way he makes the squad, is if Angelo does not want to admit another mistake, and keeps him around.

Those are just some of the guys that stuck out to me for this game, hope I did not forget anyone. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts too.

For today's game, I am just hoping for some nice offensive drives, our first team defense to step up, and for no injuries.

Go Bears!!!
