ABHINAV BINDRA WINS GOLD FOR INDIA

Today Abhinav Bindra of India did something that has never been done before, he won India its first ever individual Gold Medal in the Olympics!!! Bindra made history by winning the gold in the 10-meter air rifle.

Bindra winning the Gold was important on a lot of different fronts for India. He put an end to one of the worst streaks in Sports History of never Gold Medaling in an individual event at the Olympics, which was an embarrassment for India. He also made an entire nation proud as India's National Anthem played at the medal ceremony, another thing that rarely happens. And lastly, he might have single handily gotten India excited about the World of Sports, outside of cricket.

Hopefully now India realizes how important the World of Sports really is and how much it can affect people's lives, and takes an interest in Sports that are not named Cricket. Honestly with over a billion people, it was kind of disheartening and embarrassing seeing India never medal in anything in the Olympics. I am hoping that enough people in India, especially people with $$$, now push for developing our youth for the World of Sports. The first thing I think they need to do is hire a very motivated Sports Minister to bring about a direction of change. It is definitely doable for India, and I am hoping that by 2016, India is somewhat like China, and is competing for many medals in the near future. If that becomes the case, we might all look back to today, August 11th, 2008, as the day Abhinav Bindra changed the World of Sports for the Nation of India.

Here is the medal ceremony from the event. Congrats Abhinav, way to make your country proud...
