Today was the debut of both B-Easy and DROSE in summer League play. I was actually able to watch the game online, so I just wanted to post some thoughts about it below. Here goes...
- First of all, this was definitely a Summer League game! Both teams committed tons of turnovers, and got called for about 78 travels. The Heat played well and won the game 94-70, although the game was actually closer than the score indicates.
- B-Easy was B-Easy. He definitely took a lot of shots, but most of them were good shots. He got his pts and boards like everyone predicted. His shot was as smooth as butter, and he really looked like he belonged in the League. He scored from both in the post, and from the outside on both Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas. It really looks like he will be dropping a lot of points in the L, next year, and I can't wait to see what him and DWade can do together.
- DRose's debut was up and down. Early on, he did commit a lot turnovers, and had some troubles defending the pick and roll on D as well, but he also really came on in the second half of the game. In the third quarter, he pretty much got to the bucket at will, and his strength and speed really showed. He wasn't settling for jumpers, and the Heat did not have an answer for his penetration. Rose was also able to really open up the offense for a lot of our other players, which is exactly what the Bulls were hoping for. This game showed me that although DROSE has a lot of little things to learn about the game, and needs to adjust to the level of play in the NBA, he is definitely going to be a good point guard in the League. In all my years as a Bulls fan, I've never seen such a quick, strong PG on the Bulls, ever! The Bulls will really be a better team next year with the addition of Derrick Rose because of his style of play.
- From what I saw, the Bulls offense basically was all run and gun, and it was pretty fun to watch, at least when they were not committing turnovers! When the Bulls slowed it down, they went to a ton of high screen and rolls. This did open up the offense for players like Tyrus Thomas, who looked really dope when he played, no homo. TT definitely looks like he has worked on his game a lot in this off season. I know he is a 3rd year player, and he is playing vs rookies and FA's, and of course this is Summer League play where Paul McPherson was even King, but TT did look solid.
- Unfortunately I did not get to see much of Coach Vinny D on the live feed, but I am sure this is going to take some time for him to get acclimated with the whole process of Coaching in general, and with the players themselves. One thing I didn't understand was Noah guarding Beasley. Just didn't think that was a good match up for the Bulls on defense. I would've definitely tried someone more athletic and quicker on him, but hey, I'm not the Coach!
Here are a couple of good posts about the game today, so be sure to read them. This article is by beat writer K.C. Johnson, who was at the game today. Also, here are his game notes.
Anyways, those are my initial thoughts on the match up today. The Bullies get back to work tomorrow evening, so hopefully DROSE can play more consistently tomorrow, and the Bullies can get a win.
Lastly, here are some highlights from the game...
These are the game highlights, a lot Beasley scoring, and a couple of nice takes by DRose...
Here are Rose's and Beasley's first FG's...
Beasley also got welcomed to the NBA by TT pretty nicely on his first layup attempt here...
Beasley also got swat teamed by Cedric Simmons badly on this one here...
Lastly, if you want to watch any of the Summer League games from Orlando, make sure you go to www.orlandomagic.com tomorrow, to tune in.

Nice post. That Tyrus block on Beasley was awesome.
T Thomas and Johkim Noah got punked by Beasley. I know this is the summer league, but its sad to see both of these players are marginal at best.
I agree... As a big Tyrus fan, I'm disappointed in him not putting up bigger numbers in the summer league. He seemed so promising his rookie season. Hopefully he can pick up the slack this season.
