THE REAL DEAL

Take this for what it's worth, but I think Derrick Rose is a better all around ball player than O.J. Mayo, and when it is all said and done, he will turn out to be the better College/ NBA player. I know I wrote about O.J. and his incredible game earlier this year, but I'm telling you, this kid Rose, he is the REAL DEAL.

Although Mayo gets all the hype, DRose is definitely the better player in my eyes. Now I know Mayo and Rose are different type of ball players, where Mayo is an amazing scorer, and Rose is a better facilitator who makes his team go, but there is just something about this kid that has stuck out to me ever since I first saw him play a few years ago.

On his way to leading Simeon to a Class AA Championship in 06-07, Rose avg'd 25.2 pts, 9.1 boards, 8.8 assists, and 3.4 steals a game. He also was named Mr. Illinois Basketball last year, which was just one of many other honors he has received throughout his high school career.

The great thing about the kid is that he has a great head on his shoulders, and all he cares about is winning. Rose displayed that attitude all throughout his High School and AAU years by always being the perfect team player, and more importantly, by always winning.

At 6'4, 180lbs, Rose has that perfect blend of athleticism, natural born talent, leadership/ decision making skills, handles, and defensive prowess perfectly coupled with just the right amount of swag that makes him really "Special".

Look for this Chicago High School product to lead Memphis on a crazy title run this year ala Melo back at 'Cuse in '03.

He makes his debut tonight with Memphis, so stay tuned for a big game and a terrific season from him. I guarantee it.

God I wish this kid was playing for U of I this year, they really got shafted by Sampson on this one, but I will save that for a whole other post at a later time. Oh well, at least I can look forward to enjoying his game on the NBA level after this year is over, because he will definitely be a top 5 pick when he comes out.

Anyways, here are a couple videos of Rose, in case you have not seen him play yet...

The music in this video is kinda suspect, but don't let it sway you from watching the highlights. Just hit the mute button if the music gets annoying, because that is what I ended up doing.

In this next video, watch him slow up for the fool on the second dunk. NASTY!!!!!!

Derrick Rose is SICK! Do not forget about KState's Micheal Beasley, dude reminds me of Chuck Barley but bigger and stronger.

This kid is the real deal...no question about it. I randomly saw him throughout his senior yr in highschool and he was head and shoulders above everyone else on the floor and I expect it to be the same in college. Take into acct that he's 6-4, 19yrs old, and still getting better. He's literally one of the best all around players in college, with great handles, vision, defense, and serious quickness and explosiveness. As a pg, you've got a guy that is unselfish and can drive and get to the cup to kick or, more importantly, finish to get to the line. One area of improvement would be the consistency of his jump shot. We never really see it since he can get to the cup so easily. He has all the attributes to be a great pg, but that shot needs to be there. Worstcase scenario, if yesterday's game against Tennessee-Martin was any indication, he's a top 3 pick in the NBA.

Yes...it was a foregone conclusion that Rose was going to Illinois if Gordon went there. Thats why Rose ended up at Indiana...

Wait...what?

Definitely dig those clips. I'm not a huge college guy but now I know where to turn for the scoop on the NCAA talent. I'm liking the NBA this year. East got a whole lot better.
